After 486 treaties signed between the Governments of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the People's Republic of China, we Venezuelans only have complete information on 62 of these agreements, all arranged in a new database published by Transparencia Venezuela in the page Vendata.

After an exhaustive search, the organization, with more than 15 years of experience in the fight against corruption, found 486 documents signed between 1999 and 2019, during the governments of Hugo Chávez and Nicolás Maduro and their Chinese counterparts Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao and Xi Jinping. Of these treaties, 62 (12,75%) found complete information on the terms of the agreements, another 109 (22,42%) recorded partial data, while 315 (64,81%), the majority, had few references or just the name.

The texts of the agreements signed by both nations, in matters as varied as hydrocarbons, telecommunications, agribusiness, electricity, mining, commerce, agriculture, finance, health, transportation, public services, housing, customs, technology, agriculture, metallurgy, food, Aerospace affairs, among many others, were the subject of research in official gazettes, official pages of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries, the media, the websites of ministries and in the websites of the institutions involved in the development and execution of the agreements, without greater success than the one mentioned.

The scarcity of information on the treaties signed between Venezuela and China, political and ideological allies, is notable if compared with the database previously published by Transparency Venezuela with the agreements signed between the South American nation and the Argentine Republic, in which 100% of the treaties have complete information on their terms, since they were available in Buenos Aires. The systematization of the search was carried out with the support of Poder Ciudadano, the Argentine chapter of Transparency International.

The data is available from today on VendataTherefore, the organization invites experts and interested parties to consult and take advantage of the data provided. Although there is no complete data on the 486 treaties, it will serve to guide, advance and/or deepen research on these issues and agreements.

The treaties between Venezuela and China make up the sixth database that it has Vendata.
