Vendata and Transparency Venezuela publish database of those sanctioned

Transparency Venezuela and the open data platform, Vendata, published this Thursday three new bases that collect in one place the international sanctions that have been imposed on people, companies and goods linked to the governments of Hugo Chávez and Nicolás Maduro. The databases, which can be consulted on the portal of Vendata, include the personal sanctions imposed, from 2008 to 2021, by the United States, the European Union, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Canada, as well as the recommendations made by the Ministry of Economy of Panama in 2018.

The personal sanctions directory shows the date on which they were announced, a brief profile of the sanctioned person, the reason for the sanction, its scope, and also contains a link to reach the original source that includes the measure.

The company sanctions database includes, for its part, a column with the date on which the measure was announced, the full name of the company, the country in which it was created, the person to whom it is linked, the reason for the sanction and the link to the original source.

Finally, the database of sanctioned assets includes the type of asset in question, the date it was blocked, the country that applied the measure, the reason and scope of the decision, as well as the link to the original source.

These databases are still under construction and cannot be considered definitive. Its publication seeks to nurture the work of journalists, researchers and the general public, who wish to know the context in which the sanctions have been published, as well as the restrictions that each one of them implies.
